How GearCache started

GearCache started where most useful tools start: a real, repeated annoyance.

Every camping trip began the same way — empty the trailer onto the driveway, find the gas canister was already half empty, realise the lighter was in a coat pocket two states away, then pack everything back hoping for the best. Static checklists didn't help. They couldn't tell us what was already in the trailer versus what still needed packing, or which item had quietly broken since last time.

So we built it. GearCache treats inventory and trip checklists as the same data, two views. If your camp stove already lives in the trailer's kitchen drawer, the app knows that, and your packing list shows you only what's actually missing. Photos, conditions, item dependencies, and a hierarchical location tree are all in service of one outcome: leaving the driveway with what you need, and not having to think about it.

It's offline-first because the trips that matter most are the ones where connectivity disappears. And it's free, forever, on the one device you carry — a permanent commitment, not a launch promotion.
