GearCache Privacy Policy

Effective: May 2026 (version 1.0) Last updated: 2026-05-01

GearCache (“we”, “our”, “the app”) is a personal inventory and trip-checklist app. This policy explains what data the GearCache app does and does not collect, what limited data the gearcache.app marketing website collects, and your rights.

Version 1.0 of GearCache does not transmit any data off your device. There are no user accounts, no cloud sync, no in-app purchases, and no GearCache servers that store your inventory data. Everything you see and create in the app stays on the device you put it on. Future versions of the app may introduce optional account-based features; if and when that happens, this policy will be updated and clearly versioned before any new data flows are turned on.

1. What the GearCache app collects#

Nothing. The app runs entirely on your device:

  • Inventory data — items, categories, locations, tags, checklists, action lists, photos, and notes you create — is stored locally in the app’s private sandbox.
  • App preferences — settings such as onboarding completion and display choices — are stored locally.
  • No analytics or tracking SDKs are integrated. No advertising identifiers are read. No crash reports are sent off-device. No diagnostics are transmitted.
  • No GearCache backend is contacted by the app during normal use.

If you uninstall the app, all of the above is removed from your device and from our reach (we never had it).

2. What the gearcache.app website collects#

The marketing website at gearcache.app uses Plausible Analytics for privacy-respecting page-view metrics. Plausible:

  • Does not use cookies.
  • Does not track you across websites.
  • Does not collect personal data.
  • Records the page you’re viewing, your approximate country (derived from your IP address and then discarded), the type of device, and the referring site.

Aggregated counts of page views and store-badge clicks help us understand which content is useful. We don’t see who you are individually.

If you submit your email address through the optional newsletter form on the website, that address is stored so we can send occasional product updates. We don’t share it with anyone, we don’t use it to track you, and the only emails you’ll receive are about meaningful GearCache changes.

3. Third-party services involved when you download the app#

  • Apple App Store delivers the iOS app to your iPhone. Apple records the download under your Apple ID. We don’t see who downloads — we only see aggregate App Store Connect counts.
  • Google Play Store delivers the Android app to your phone. Google records the download under your Google account. Same deal — we see aggregate counts only.

These transactions are governed by Apple’s and Google’s privacy policies, not ours. We never receive your name, email address, or payment information from them.

4. Data storage and security#

  • On your device (iOS): GearCache uses Apple’s SwiftData framework in the app’s private sandbox. The app’s data is included in your standard iCloud / Mac phone backup if you have those enabled — that’s a default iOS behaviour and is governed by Apple’s privacy policy.
  • On your device (Android): GearCache uses Android’s Room persistence library. The app’s data is not included in Google’s Auto Backup; on Android, your inventory is genuinely device-only. See Keeping your data safe for the full picture.
  • In transit (website only): All gearcache.app traffic uses HTTPS (TLS 1.2+).
  • GearCache servers: None operate in production for app data in version 1.0.

5. Your rights and controls#

  • No account, no data to request. Because version 1.0 doesn’t collect anything from your app usage, there’s nothing for us to export, hand over, or delete on a “data subject access request.” Your local data is yours; uninstalling the app removes it.
  • Newsletter unsubscribe: If you signed up via the website newsletter form, reply to any newsletter email to unsubscribe — we’ll remove you within a few working days.
  • Website analytics: Plausible’s data policy explains what’s measured and how to opt out at the browser level if you prefer.
  • Children: GearCache isn’t directed at children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children. (Since we don’t collect personal information from anyone in version 1.0, this is a low bar to clear.)

6. Changes to this policy#

If we change this policy in a way that materially affects how we handle your data — including any future version of the app that begins collecting data we don’t collect today — we’ll show an in-app notice for that version, post the change here with an updated date, and never apply new collection retroactively to data you created under an older policy.

7. Contact#
